Bio Safety Cabinet

A biosafety cabinet (BSC) is a critical containment and safety device used in cleanrooms and laboratories to provide a controlled and sterile environment for handling hazardous biological materials, such as bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms. It's designed to protect laboratory personnel, the surrounding environment, and the materials being worked with by preventing the escape of potentially harmful agents.

High-Efficiency Filtration

A BSC incorporates HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filters to remove airborne particles and contaminants. These filters ensure that the air entering the cabinet is exceptionally clean and free of particles.

Airflow Design

BSCs operate on the principle of inward airflow. Air is drawn into the cabinet through the front grille and then passed through HEPA filters before being circulated within the work area. This airflow prevents the escape of hazardous materials from the cabinet and protects the operator.

Protection Levels

Biosafety cabinets are classified into different types (e.g., Class I, Class II, and Class III) based on their level of containment and protection. Class II BSCs are commonly used and provide both operator and environmental protection, making them suitable for various laboratory tasks.

Safe Working Environment

BSCs feature a workspace with a clear, transparent front panel and gloves, allowing operators to manipulate materials within a sterile and controlled environment. The cabinet also typically has a UV lamp for decontaminating the interior between tasks.
